Our Task:

How can we incorporate technology into our curriculum to engage our students, and what type of professional development can give us the education needed to accomplish this goal.

  • The purpose of this wiki is for community members to brainstorm, to each come up with ideas about our agenda, and to use this page to list and discuss them.
  • The students we are concerned about are all 7th and 8th graders.

The main area we would like to research is technology integration for math.
  • All community wiki members share a common vision and work in the math department or in Special Education.
  • Our objective is to help all students (incl. special ed and gifted) to come to school motivated to learn and to be challenged to do their very best.
  • The facilitator's name of this page is Petra Hagan. (7th grade math teacher)

Our Agenda:

  • Please think about the main problems areas you see in your classroom or with your students.
  • I would like you all to talk to your students to see how they envision their education, what they see as their biggest problems areas, and how they would like to incorporate technology.
  • Let's share the task of researching professional development on the internet, including blogs, wikis, and other learning sites and report back about our findings. We need to collaborate with other teachers in other areas to see what worked for them.
  • I will talk to our principal and email administrators to see what information they have available for us to share.

Remember to use the "Edit This Page" button to share your input!

I have listed some interesting web pages for us to help with our research.

  1. Perhaps we can write a grant to help defray the costs. Does anyone have experience with writing grants? (Hancock)
  2. I usually write a grant once a year for items our school cannot afford, yet they have gotten very specific about what they will order. In the past, this is how I got my elmo and I also wrote a grant to get Microsoft 2007 for our library computers. Yet I am stuck when it comes to teaching math. What will work with these kids, what technology can I use? Any suggestions? (Hagan)
  3. I have been working on some blogs in my technology class at UNT; I will
  4. try to see if I can find math blogs that can give us some ideas on programs we can use. Maybe after the TAKS test is over we can try something new. (Kim)
  5. That sounds great. I am not that familiar with blogs. Maybe I can ask my daughter in Tyler, have her check, and see what they do in their math department. (Renee)
  6. Does anyone still remember our partners from the summer alignment workshop in Marshall we had to do? I know they had some good ideas too. If any of you still have their email address, maybe we could invite them to this wiki. (Petra)
  7. I might be able to contact some of the other librarians to see if they have any ideas. We usually can come up with some good information. (Linda)
